Wenn man von seiner Musik leben möchte, benötigt man zumeist einen magischen Moment, in dem der Bekanntheitsgrad mehr oder weniger zufällig nach oben schnellt. SILVERSTEIN hatten diesen Moment, als einer ihrer Hardcore-Fans (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) namens Ryan Hart auf die fixe Idee kam, den Song ‘Smashed Into Pieces’ seiner Lieblingsband bei einem ‘American Idol’-Casting zum Besten zu geben.
Natürlich scheiterte der 18-Jährige nach nur wenigen Sekunden, doch sein Auftritt mit jeder Menge “ausgebeepter” Schimpfwörter ging um die Welt, landete dank YouTube in vielen Internetblogs und Diskussionsforen. Und natürlich brachte dies auch SILVERSTEIN einen großen Schub nach vorne, eine Tour zusammen mit TAKING BACK SUNDAY sorgte schließlich für den Rest: Album Nummer 3, “Arrivals & Departures”, avancierte zum heißersehntesten Screamo-/Hardcore-Album des Jahres.
Und die fünf Kanadier ließen sich nicht lumpen, holten mit Mark Trombino (JIMMY EAT WORLD, BLINK 182) einen erfolgsversprechenden Produzenten an Bord. Verständlich, dass sich die Band von ihren Hardcore-Wurzeln größtenteils getrennt hat - es gilt, Platten zu verkaufen, aber nicht zu knapp. Dementsprechend beinahe radiotauglich kommen die neuen Songs dann auch daher, Opener ‘Sound Of The Sun’ oder das äußerst hymnische ‘Worlds Apart’ leben mehr denn je vom durchaus überzeugenden Gesang SHANE TODDs. Dessen Growl-Parts wurden hingegen deutlich zurückgeschraubt, und auch die instrumentale Untermalung hat teilweise schon Stadionrock-”Qualitäten”.
Natürlich ist das alles nicht sonderlich innovativ, was SILVERSTEIN auf ihrem dritten Album zu bieten haben. Natürlich werden viele alte Fans, vermutlich sogar Ryan Hart, der Band nun “Ausverkauf” vorwerfen und sich mit Grauen abwenden. Natürlich werden SILVERSTEIN dennoch - zumindest dort drüben über dem großen Teich - ihre Platten wie geschnitten Brot verkaufen. Vermutlich sogar zurecht.
